Another day, another earthquake ..

The news is barely catching up with it but so far it's come in at 5.8 on the Richter scale. Centered in Chino Hills, and here felt just a rolling motion for about 15 seconds at work. Got out for lunch and was passed by an Edison truck trailed by a cable van heading up my street....oh yes, interesting utilities interruption times ahead.

A'ight, "see" you when I can see you, at a hotspot near me or after Time Warner and friends are done digging up dirt.

ETA: radio saying now that it was from over 7 miles deep, so that's why it felt so light for a 5-plus-pointer.

Well, I'm just glad your tush is in one piece. These things sound quite dramatic when they're announced as "breaking news".

If the earth opens up and swallows you, I will be so pissed off.

*MUAH!*

Mr. Bananas: Don't they? You'd think So Cal broke off and was on its way to knock knees with Hawaii, the way they go on about it. I can understand the first 15 minutes or half hour, when we're really not sure how hard it struck at the epicenter and reports are just trickling in but the rest is ridiculous.

John: Well, so would I! ha ha! And thanks for checking in on a "rattled Californian" (((LOVE)))

Slyde: 'morning -- Road Runner's been on and off since last night and now it's on so YAY! Yes, if I would have been in the 2nd or 3rd floor or under the parking structure of a building in the LA area/Chino Hills, or San Bernardino/Riverside, then I'd been pretty shook up right after it happened. But the overhype on CNN, Fox, etc., was hilarious.

It seems Cali can't catch a break! Between mudslides, wildfires and earthquakes. Maybe the earth opened up a swallowed some of the crazy papparazzi.

Glad all is well with you Letty. :)

Girl, I was in San Diego at MCRD when it happened - in the ladies' room! I have never been in an earthquake, and I thought it was the plumbing - I swear!! Can you believe it - on a Marine Corps base during an earthquake. I should have made a side trip to visit you - darn me!

When I was a kid in L.A., back in the '50's, we hardly paid attention to earthquakes. It was kind of exciting, but it just seemed like a normal part of living there. Now, with 24/7 news coverage of every little thing, people get much more excited about potential doom.

Exactly. What's more is that the obsessive coverage and repeated worst-case scenarios have the vibe that all these reporters are lusting after "the big story" bad enough to wish it happened. And I had a work-study position at a newspaper and know enough reporters, many great humans, but news is highly competitive and they all hope for the story that will give them their big break at the national level or at least a better-paying position.

OMYGOD, Beth! ha haa! Recently was in San Diego but unforch for business/meeting bawling client (god), and part way stopped at San Onofre beach, as in the nuclear San Onofre power plant. THAT would have been some experience.

HEY, but if it had been the big one, at least you would have been protected from harm by "a few good men"!

Hello from a fellow (wandering) Californian... I come to you via Gorilla Bananas.

I get all excited every time I hear about an earthquake back in California. And nostalgic too, oddly enough. And I tell myself that a lot of little EQs mean that when the big one comes, it won't be so mean and violent.

Hi and welcome, Mary! Any friend of Mr. Bananas is a friend of mine <3

ha! I remember being nostalgic, too, when after graduating high school I spend the next year in New York with one of my best friends and a "small but intense temblor" was on the news from CA.
